Hey there, friends!
We're the James sisters: Cassy, a writer and a senior at Princeton University, and Kate, a visual artist and a sophomore at Cornell University. When the COVID-19 pandemic upended the world as we knew it, we watched helplessly as the people we loved spiraled into anxiety, fear, and despair. Our family and friends struggled to see the light at the end of the tunnel; our neighbors admitted that they felt overwhelmed and hopeless. Eventually, we couldn't stand by and watch any longer. So we chose to fight back against the darkness the only way we knew how: through art. In October, 2020, after brainstorming ideas at our kitchen counter, we founded Saturnia Arts. We wanted to connect people in need to students who could create joyful and meaningful pieces of art just for them, totally free of charge. But we never expected the response that we would get. In just a few months, Saturnia filled over 300 requests from community members and registered over 60 volunteer artists, generating hundreds of drawings, paintings, photos, poems, and stories. Now, we want to bring the healing power of art to you. Are you feeling overwhelmed? Anxious? Down in the dumps? Would a piece of art bring a smile to your face today? Then Saturnia can help! Our namesake, the saturnia moth, is a symbol of endurance through struggle. Like moths, we aim to find light in the darkness, even when it seems impossible. Because there is always light. And there is always hope. "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." - John 1:5 |
